This statement is really a recapitulation of Pascal's wager, so I will level his argument and expect to never hear this argument from any sort of educated individual, as I have heard the aforementioned questions many times.
Pascal's wager goes something like this: There are two choices you can make with two metaphysical possibilities, thus making a 2 x 2 matrix of payoffs.

As a sophomore this year, coming to TCU was pretty strange for me, thanks to all of the changes taking place on campus. There it sat in my e-mail inbox: the dreaded question no professor wants to hear. "I wasn't in class on Tuesday," the student wrote. "Did I miss anything important?"

It was supposed to be a fun three-day weekend for SMU students. Fraternities socialized with the new freshmen, students congregated in front of Dallas Hall in an attempt to cheer the Mustangs on to a first-game victory, and then something not so expected happened: five SMU students found themselves amidst yet another drunk driving accident.
